Last
month, MegaPath announced plans to expand its Ethernet over Copper service on a
nationwide basis by leveraging ADTRAN's flagship product, the Total Access 5000
in order to deliver a blend of Ethernet services over copper and via VDSL2
bonding. By June 2012 MegaPath plans to make the service available in over 680
central offices, making it the single largest Ethernet service provider of
nationwide Ethernet services.
The provider's
SVP Chief Technology Officer, Aamir Hussain, stated that with ""the
new capabilities we're getting from ADTRAN we'll be able to support 100 Mbps
symmetrical and also in some cases 400 Mbps asymmetrical services,""
as opposed to its current offering that supports 20Mbps. Hussain added that
MegaPath's objective is to offer a cutting-edge network that provides the
speeds and services customers require to support access to a extensive
assortment of applications, and that market leader ADTRAN is allowing MegaPath
""to push the technology envelope, while maintaining the reliability
and Quality of Service standards that are paramount to our
customers.""
For those with
facilities that cannot be reached by fiber, the provider is Ethernet-enabling
its whole network with scalable technology to offer a comprehensive assortment
of options and applications for customers. Thanks to this endeavor, MegaPath is
capable of deploying a variety of business services, such as multiple-site IP
VPN, MPLS networking, high-speed Internet access, and private data networking
for large enterprises.
ADTRAN's VP of
sales for the Carrier Networks Division, Steven Locke, stated that by
partnering with MegaPath, ADTRAN is offering the provider a way to deliver
Ethernet at rates that, until now, were unattainable, and that by making the
most of ""the total breadth of ADTRAN's Ethernet
portfolio,"" the provider has the ability to meet the unique
cloud-connectivity and high-speed business services needs of its customers.
